sunny sunday in the south bay

just got home from a nice and too easy flight from Philly.   i say "too easy" because it was my first flight where we (as an airline) charged you (the flying public) for soft drinks, juices, coffee, tea and yes, water.  since this new policy of "pay for what you use" was implemented back on August 1st, i think most people knew what to expect.  but for me, it is not as much fun.  there is not much interaction with people when you are offering food and beverages for sale.  everything changes.
when i was first hired in 1987, on this same cross-country flight we would have three meal choices (no charge) along with 3 beverage services (no charge).  and we had ice cream after the movie along with peanuts.  before the meal and before landing we would hand out hot towels.
and then. . . mints.  everything changes.
today's easy flight also had a very interesting guy onboard.  i knew who he was before he even boarded our flight and yet i had never met him.  try to figure that one out.   his name was Jude. and he helped pass the time as we talked about this and that, celebrity meetings and high school reunions and my hair.  and he should know.  his advice . . . embrace the waves.

everything changes but beautiful sunsets will

   always be beautiful
