" . . . below the horizon of my memory . . . "

how does a person from south Texas who has lived for almost 20 years in the south bay of Los Angeles fall in love with . . .  a radio show from Canada?  that was what i was thinking about this morning listening to Stuart McLean on his Vinyl Cafe radio show as he spoke of Dave and Morley's 20th anniversary canoe trip in Algonquin Provincial Park somewhere in Ontario, Canada.  it all started almost exactly 10 years ago. . .

more later.  time to get ready to get ready for my bus adventure to San Pedro for an arts and music festival.  before i go i will say "congratulations" to the Blue Dolphins.  by chance, if there is such a thing in my life, i happened across several soccer games this morning on my walk. i had been watching some mentally/physically challenged youth seemingly enjoying kicking a soccer ball up and down and  around the soccer field.  some seem to enjoy just standing in the center of the field.  the goalie for the purple team let a few goals get by but i don't think he noticed. he keep smiling. i think the team in green had a ringer or two. when they took their half-time break i continued on my walk. it was then that i noticed my friend Steve's wife holding a a video camera which was pointed to the field of girls in blue and red uniforms.

and then i saw their 5 year old daughter Taylor ( wearing #2 in blue if you are keeping score).  and just after i started filming some of the action, Taylor took charge of the ball and kicked one into the back of the net. . . GOAL.  i think the Blue Dolphins scored twice more while i watched from a distance.  i stayed for the "good game" handshake and the running thru the "tunnel" of parents outstretched hands.  and then the photo op with the team's sign.  apparently Steve was on the field next to his daughter's field helping coach the Blue Dolphins 2.  it looked like everyone was having fun.
i continued on my walk which i was cutting short so i could stop by the market before getting ready to go to San Pedro for more music.

when i got on the bus today for my little adventure to San Pedro for the Tri-Arts Festival, i did not think i would see something like this:

Disco-go Pinto

'37 hot rod (actually i think that is what i heard someone say)

Sacred Grounds for coffee and music

i did think i would see and hear something like this:

Visa Versa

Jill Sharpe Band
