a funny thing happened on the way to get my Schengen visa

well, actually it wasn't so much as funny as slightly awkward.  and it really wasn't on the way to the French Consulate but while waiting for my Schengen visa application processed.  let's just say i thought it was going to be a big office with people at their typewriters and computers and in cubicles.   it was just Eric and one other office person.  Eric is the head of the visa department who sent a apologetic email and told me i could come into get my visa anytime without an appointment. so, possibly the email i sent him regarding what i perceived as less than courteous phone behavior was in fact about the person sitting next to him helping to process my visa application.  Eric had left my name with the security guard because i did not have an appointment.  the security guard said "oh, your Kevin.  Eric has been waiting for you"  and then he showed me into the small office. anyways, it took three buses and two and half hours to get to the French Consulate. my visa was processed in less than 10 minutes (and $86).  Merci, Eric.  see you in 5 years. i left home around 8am and returned a little over 12 hours.  more about what i did for all that time later with photos.  and one bad movie review.

i had such high expectations for this movie.  but as the Buddha said "expectations cause problems."  low expectations would not have helped this movie.  that was two hours i will never get back.  how is that for an endorsement.

somewhere on Santa Monica Blvd. heading toward the Nuart Theatre.

somewhere at UCLA

at UCLA's statue garden

akatombo.  this red dragonfly and his partner were very entertaining. i could have easily enjoyed watching them fly around this little stream at the Mathias Botanical Garden on the campus of UCLA for two hours (refer to movie review).

i had lunch under this tree after getting my visa and walking thru the Westwood area to the botanical gardens at UCLA.
